Join us for an action-oriented online teacher professional development course! This course will teach participants how to identify and implement a local service-learning campaign using the Roots & Shoots program model. The service learning curriculum equips participants with teacher resources to discover the differences between service-learning and community service, and apply the Roots & Shoots model to help youth have a voice in identifying and addressing needs in their community. At Roots & Shoots, our goal is to develop compassionate leaders to make the world a better place for people, other animals and the environment. Help us achieve that goal! Complete the course and mentor young people to lead change in their communities using community mapping, collaborating with stakeholders, and designing practical solutions in the form of campaigns. Connect young people to Dr. Jane Goodall’s message of hope while facilitating a sense of empowerment that comes from helping others!

What is Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots?
Founded in 1991 by Dr. Jane Goodall, Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots is a youth service program for young people of all ages. Our mission is to foster respect and compassion for all living things, to promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, and to inspire each individual to take action to make the world a better place for people, other animals, and the environment.
What grades and subjects does the Roots & Shoots model work with?
Roots & Shoots has been used in every single grade and subject matter (even physical education!). We have adaptations of our resources for younger children and the types of R&S campaigns that you develop will vary based on the age and abilities of your young people.
Is Roots & Shoots only in the United States?

Is this course only for educators in the United States?
This course is designed for K-12 formal and informal educators in the United States. However, we welcome individuals from all professions (and from anywhere in the world) to participate. Our resources and service learning model are easily (and often) adapted for use by other audiences.
