The healthcare industry is rapidly changing and as it does, so is the role of the consumer. There is tremendous uncertainty about what this means for the consumer as well as healthcare providers. We as consumers are demanding more, more say and more accountability in how healthcare is delivered and how and who pays for that care. How can healthcare professionals and consumers both ensure that the highest quality of personalized care is being delivered? To better understand our role, we need to identify the organizations in the healthcare ecosystem and how they are connected. If we don't understand the relationship of all the players, how can we enable change and work together to benefit the consumer? Because the healthcare ecosystem is changing, we need to look at the challenges we as consumers face, as well as new developments in healthcare technology to appropriately plan for the impact of the upcoming changes. Some key topics that we will consider in the module will help answer these questions regarding changes to the delivery of care. They include the impact of new technologies, the development of new payment models, financial incentives for both consumers, as well as providers, and lastly the role of data analytics. We will spend much of our time discussing how you as a consumer can begin to favorably impact some of the changes that are needed. So welcome. I'm Russ Moran. I've had the opportunity to experience over 30 years of the changes in the healthcare industry. My focus has been on strategy, operations and service excellence, organizational leadership and healthcare innovation in service and technology. I am happy to serve as the instructor in this course and hope to share my experiences with you. As you will discover, there has never been a time like this in healthcare, so it's the perfect time to be involved. I hope you enjoy this experience and take away a sense of optimism on how you can have a positive impact as a consumer.
