During this round-the-world tour, I realised that what I enjoyed, one of the things I enjoyed the most, as well as meeting people, forging links, was replying to e-mails from all of the people who were following us during our tour, because we were the first to do a round-the-world tour relayed via the Internet, in 1998. It kind of gave me a moment to unwind, whereas for my 2 companions, to be honest, it got on their nerves. Whereas conversely, they were very adept at doing the budget, managing other aspects, IT etc. So I realised that actually, well, I enjoyed it, I liked doing it and as it turned out, when we had our launch evening for the book we later wrote, there were 3,500 people who joined us for that evening's launch, from the database that I compiled precisely by forging links with the people that had followed us during the round-the-world tour. And that's when I realised that when it came to it, what I enjoyed, namely writing to people, discussing things, forging a link with them, ultimately had value that had social impact because we were able to reach out with our book, which became a best-seller, and thereby inspire people and show them all of these great stories that existed around the world. And so in the end, it was my passion for, well, contact with other people that allowed me to have an impact and that's when I said, well, Christian you're an agronomy engineer, that was really interesting but it's completely different, in fact your area is communication and that's how I got into it, because it was actually... well... it was what I was most passionate bout.
