[MUSIC] One of the most important components of the digital storytelling process is selecting a topic for the digital story that you will be creating. And one of the best ways to select a topic, I think, is by exploring other digital stories that people have created on a variety of different content areas. So if you go to our website, the Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling, and click on the Example Stories tab at the top of the screen. That will take you to a page that has stories listed by category. And you'll see here that there are stories in Art, Health, History, Language Arts, Mathematics, Music, Personal Reflection, Popular Culture, Science. And just about every content area is represented here. If you find a topic you like, let's just choose Mathematics. You'll be able to scroll through and see that there are different mathematics oriented stories on this site. And you can scroll back and forth to see what's there. And if you find one you like, click the View Story button. And that will bring up a media player where you can click on the play button and watch the story. So here's one about stress and learning. >> One of the most vivid memories of my primary school education was sitting at a kitchen table late one night with my mother, who's coaching me in long division. It was close to midnight. The house was dark because everyone else was asleep except the two of us. I was only nine years old then. My mother was getting more and more frustrated. >> So I'm not going to play the entire story, but I encourage you to go onto our website and watch this story and many others in their entirety. So that you can start thinking about topics that you might use for your own story. I would suggest that you pay close attention to all of the components of the stories that you watch. Starting with the images that were used, the narration, what it says. So you can be thinking about how you're going to write the first version of your script. Any music that's possibly playing in the background, and the overall message of the story. The important thing, I think, is to select a topic that's personally meaningful to you. That you think will help you to better present information to your students and help engage them in the learning process. So go online, watch some stories, and think about selecting a topic that you think will take advantage of the power of digital storytelling in your own classroom. [MUSIC]
