Dr. Yaakov Nahmias

Director of the Center of Bioengineering

Bio

Dr. Yaakov Nahmias received his B.Sc. from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, Magna Cum Laude. He did his PhD at the University of Minnesota and his postdoctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2006, he became a faculty member of Harvard Medical School, winning a prestigious National Institute of Health (NIH) Career Award. In 2009, Dr. Nahmias moved to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he won a major European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant. He authored over 40 peer-reviewed papers, and a book titled Microdevices in Biology and Medicine. He is a recognized expert in liver biology whose work is published in the leading journals of the field including: Hepatology, PNAS, Nature Medicine, and Nature Biotechnology. Dr. Nahmias is the head of the microLiver Technologies (µLT) Laboratory with over $5.2 million in independent research funding. As of 2010 he is serving as the Director of the Center of Bioengineering at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
